Cambridge a village in transition

Link to August 7 Wisconsin State Journal article.

Excerpt:   Once a popular day-trip destination, this village 18 miles east of Madison is down on its luck.

There are three empty storefronts on its three-block Main Street, and the tourists from Illinois and southern Wisconsin are largely absent this year.

Those who live and work in this community of 1,300 known for its unique stores, pottery, Lake Ripley and as the home of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, say the downtown has been hit hard by everything from the bad economy and increased competition from other destinations to the reconstruction of Highway 12 and the loss of a popular downtown restaurant.
